COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

Community Solar Program, Information Meeting for NCC, Thursday July 6, 7:00 pm
Location: North Chevy Chase Christian Church, 8814 Kensington Pkwy

Under recent legislation, Maryland is launching a new “community solar” pilot program.
How does it work? With community solar, you can get low priced solar power for your home even if you can’t have solar on your roof.
Under the community solar program, you can:
Buy a share of solar electricity from a multi-user community solar array, OR
Own panels in a local community solar project.
You’ll still get any extra power you need from Pepco.

Support the environment. Through community solar, we can reduce the use of fossil fuels.

Save money. Savings estimate: 10% below Pepco rates. If you choose to own panels, the electricity is free.

Interested? A group of NCC residents has been tracking the program’s development. The state is just beginning to authorize solar developers and utilities (for us, Pepco) to start organizing projects.

Anyone can look for a project and consider signing up. But we think that if interested neighbors approach projects together, we can negotiate more favorable costs.

If you might be interested, let us know! Don’t worry—no commitment is needed now. But we do need an estimate of interested NCC households as we start reaching out to project developers.

If interested, please email our neighborhood working group at [email protected].

For more information, see the attachment and the Public Service Commission’s page at https://northchevychase.org//www.psc.state.md.us/electricity/community-solar-pilot-program/

And – come to an NCC neighborhood information meeting about Community Solar in the NCC Christian Church community room (8814 Kensington Pkwy) at 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 6th.

Volunteer Training: How To Help People Declutter Their Homes, Respectfully & Safely
Hosted by the Villages of Kensington, this 2-hour training session will focus on giving volunteers hands-on strategies to help people declutter their homes safely and respectfully. Presented by Pazit Aviv, Montgomery County Village Coordinator. Pazit has plenty of experience with decluttering support, “painstakingly acquired” at her previous position at a local housing authority that included 6 years of service on a hoarding task force. This training session is for Village volunteers as well as other community volunteers, and is sponsored by Villages of Kensington. To attend, please RSVP to Donna Savage, membership coordinator for Villages of Kensington, [email protected], or call our VoK phone at 301-509-0191

Looking forward to welcoming Volunteers from your Village to this training event!
