Please find a letter sent by the Village Council on December 16, 2019 to the Maryland Public Works Board as well as the County, State, and federal elected officials for the Village vehemently opposing any effort to move proposals for Montgomery County Beltway Expansion from Phase II to Phase I of the I-495 & I-270 P3 Program. The letter also expresses grave concerns about the lack of transparency by State Highway Administration (SHA) throughout the process and the deleterious health, environmental and quality of life impacts of beltway expansion.
Also, here is an article published on December 16 in Maryland Matter highlighting elements of the Village’s letter and Maryland Department of Transportation’s refusal to share information. Delegate Al Carr and other officials are looking at ways in which they can obtain a list of all residences who received the letter from SHA related to conducting surveys/assessments on their property.
Please note that the December 18 meeting of the Board of Public Works – at which the expansion vote was included – was cancelled by Governor Hogan over the weekend. There is speculation that the meeting and vote will be rescheduled for January 8.
