On Friday, 09/01, 8, 15,22 and 29 at 3:30 PM Lego Play: Drop in for an open session of Lego play on Fridays between 3:30 and 5:00 pm. Elementary age with an adult. We will provide the Legos and space, you provide the imagination. No registration needed….

On Saturday, 09/02/17 at 2:00 PM Foreign Film Series: Rust and Bone (2012) France. A homeless father and street boxer struggling to support his son and a horribly injured killer whale trainer’s lives intersect and form an intensifying bond that fractures the considerable defensive armor each is accustomed to wearing. Join us for screenings of a variety of films from around the world. Film is typically shown on the first Saturday of each month. All movies have English subtitles. Screenings will begin at 2:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, 09/05, 12 and 19 at 10:30 AM Toddler Storytime: Get up and get moving at storytime! These 20-30 minute programs are full of a diverse collection of books, songs and fun activities. They are designed to introduce your child to the culture of reading and help develop your child’s language skills. Children are encouraged to engage with the stories and activities, and their grownups to participate in the program along with the children. No registration needed.

On Saturday, 09/09/17 at 2:00 PM Martha Doyle Trio: The Martha Doyle Trio consists of Tom Scullen (bass, vocals), Dennis Doyle (guitar, vocals), and Martha Doyle (flute, penny whistle, vocals). They perform at events and activities throughout Montgomery County including Brookside Gardens, the County Recreation Department and the Jewish Council for the Aging.
On Monday, 09/11/17 at 4:00 PM Read to a Dog: Chevy Chase Library is partnering with P.A.L. for a read to a dog program the first Monday of every month! Young readers will be able to share stories with a furry friend. Dogs will never judge or correct them, which allows them to really improve their reading skills. Drop in.

On Wednesday, 09/13/17 at 6:30 PM Meet Author Mike Lupica: Mike Lupica is the bestselling author of the middle grade novels Heat, Travel Team, and Fantasy League. He will discuss his newest book, Lone Stars, an uplifting story about role models, football, and tackling fear. Copies of his books will be available for purchase and signing through a special arrangement with Politics and Prose Bookstore with a percentage of the proceeds benefiting the Friends of the Library, Bethesda Chapter.
On Wednesday, 09/13/17 at 7:30 PM Great Books Group: This month’s selection is Personal Memoirs by Grant. Join us for an intellectually stimulating exploration of some of the greatest fiction and non-fiction works published through the ages. Registration is not required. Attendees are responsible for obtaining the material to read in advance of the discussion. Group meets the second Wednesday each month at 7:30 pm
On Thursday, 09/14, 21 and 28 at 10:30 AM Play Date at the Library: Come to the Chevy Chase Library on Thursday mornings from 10:30 -11:30 am to meet new friends and have fun with Duplos, blocks, matching and sorting games and other STEM/STEAM activities. Preschool age. No registration needed.
On Friday, 09/15/17 at 10:30 AM Jefferson Café: This month’s article is Liberalism by Daniel T. Rodgers; Democracy Journal, Winter 2017. We hope everyone will feel comfortable participating. The group is fairly small so that everyone can see and hear everyone else while seated around a table. Copies of the articles to be discussed will be available without charge on the holds shelf at the library.

Release is a new classic about teenage relationships, self-acceptance, and what happens when the walls we build start to come down.

Stories in English and Spanish, songs and rhymes, too! These 25-30 minute programs are designed to delight children of all ages. Filled with diverse stories and activities that promotes and develops language skills and imagination. These programs encourage children to develop a lifelong love of reading and learning, and introduce them to the culture of reading. No registration needed.
